H1Z1 Is The Zombie Battle Royale We’ve Been Waiting For PS4

Bountie/31 May 2018

If you’ve noticed, the battle royale genre has taken the world by storm, which means that there are a lot of similar-looking games with the same concept: be the last to survive. One of the battle royale original games, H1Z1, has jumped back into the bandwagon and is off to a fiery start.

H1Z1 came out earlier last week in beta as a free PS4 download and has garnered a massive crowd of supporters. Daybreak Games announced that 24 hours after its PS4 launch, H1Z1 was downloaded by more than 1.5 million supporters.

So what is the game’s appeal? Let’s find out:

What’s It About?

H1Z1 is a battle royale game where 150 players compete to be the last survivor. You start by parachuting from a random location above the map. You’ll have to grab weapons, armour, ammo and necessary objects the moment you land in order to fight your way to survival. You can find vehicles throughout the map to chase down opponents or make a quick getaway

As the game progresses, a toxic gas cloud compresses the map, dealing damage to anyone who touches. You’ll know when it is time to start running into the safe zone when you hear the siren sounding off.

This is a common strategy in battle royales to make the playable portion of the map smaller. You’ll eventually be forced to face the other players in close quarters.

How Is It?

Upon first impressions, the game combines a “Silent Hill” and “Counter-Strike” vibe due to the siren sounding off when the safe zone is shrinking. The world that you are in resembles more of PlayerUnknown’s BattleGrounds (PUBG) rather than Fortnite, with realistic characters and environment.

It’s a great substitute for PUBG-lovers who want to play PUBG on PS4. Furthermore, the game is extremely fast-paced and crazily intense!

Since H1z1 is still in beta, expect limited features and the occasional bug here and there.

Features You Will Love

The video by LunarGaming explains in detail what you can expect in the beta. Here’s a summary and additional details about H1Z1:

#1. Challenges Section

Something extra that H1Z1 did is including a challenge section that rewards you for constantly playing the game in the first few days. This is great for beginners and there are 3 ways for you to get rewarded.

  1. Playing 1 round of solo
  2. Playing solo rounds and getting ranked in the top 100
  3. Completing tutorial

#2. Different Modes

You can choose from 4 modes to play. Playing solo, as a duo (recently added), in a team of five and combat training. Combat training is the best mode to play as you are starting out because it’s essentially a training ground for you. You can keep playing and when you’re killed, you’ll respawn.

#3. Customisation

In H1Z1, you can customise your character with hats, helmets, backpacks, outfits and weapons.  There are off-roaders, pickup trucks, ATVs and parachutes for you to change up and customise, alongside choosing your emotes. Many skins are there for you to unlock as you win more matches.

#4. Simple Controls

The controls are pretty simple to get used. It might look like a lot but you’ll get the hang of it. You can always go to combat training to figure out and memorise the buttons before starting an actual match.

Sounds like fun? You can download the game for your PS4 via the link here.
